North Uist Distillery
North Uist Distillery – based in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides - was founded in 2019 by Jonny Ingledew and Kate Macdonald, a local couple who returned to the island on which they’d grown up with the aim of starting a distillery that would showcase Uist’s outstanding natural ingredients and provide local employment. The distillery now employs over a dozen people and every aspect of production, from the selecting of ingredients to the bottling and packaging, is done in-house.
With locally foraged and bartered ingredients, Downpour gin has made an assured name for itself with its bold flavour and design, leading to a host of prestigious awards including ‘Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year’ at the Scottish Gin Awards in both 2022 and 2023 and ‘Spirit of the Year’ at the London Spirits Competition 2023. North Uist Distillery also became B-Corp Certified in 2023, joining the global community of B Corporations working towards the highest standards of ethical, sustainable, and transparent practices.
Featured product
Downpour Scottish Dry Gin is the flagship expression from North Uist Distillery. Named ‘Spirit of the Year’ at the 2023 London Spirits Competition, Downpour Scottish Dry Gin is made using twice the concentration by weight of botanicals compared to the industry average, resulting in a stronger 'Downpour' of flavour.
TASTING NOTES - A big, bold, citrus forward gin with long spiced notes to finish. Wild Hebridean heather gives an overall honeyed note to this deliciously smooth gin, with each batch named after the place on the island the heather was collected from.
